Representatives from LITTLE EDEN and the Hyams family were invited by the town of Almenno San Bartholomeo Bergamo to attend a series of events to honour Danny and Domitilla Hyams (Founders of LITTLE EDEN Society) which took place on 7 February 2016 in Italy.
The founders were honoured through the following events:
– Unveiling of the sign board of the birth place of Domitilla Rota in Albenza
– Blessing of the new road called Domitilla Rota
– Recognition and conferment posthumously “Honorary Citizenship to Daniel George Hyams.”
– The Associazione Domitilla Rota Hyams ONLUS offices in Italy will be named “House of Domitilla and Daniel Hyams.”
Italy being the birth country of the late Domitilla, the town of Almenno San Bartholomeo Bergamo took this opportunity to honour her for the work she carried out in South Africa through LITTLE EDEN Society which cares for 300 children and adults with profound intellectual disability and also to recognise her husband, Danny Hyams for the role he played as a support to Domitilla. The couple met in Italy when Danny, who was a South African escaped prisoner of war in 1943 took refuge at Domitilla’s house.
This event in Italy comes at a time when the Society prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017. If you would like to know more about the beautiful love story of Danny and Domitilla or the work carried out by their treasured LITTLE EDEN Society within the community, contact Nichollette Muthige on 011 609 7246 or marketing@littleeden.org.za
Grateful thanks to Associazione Domitilla Rota Hyams Onlus, the town of Almenno San Bartholomeo Bergamo, family and friends for acknowledging the special work carried out by Danny and Domitilla in South Africa through LITTLE EDEN Society.
May God bless you all!
