Bright came to LITTLE EDEN two years ago in September 2018. Although he tried desperately to communicate verbally, he just didn’t have the strength in his facial muscles. Today, through lots of word repetition, watching the therapist’s mouth movements (prior to the wearing of masks) and music therapy (where he is learning to sing) Bright is now able to say “Hello”, “Goodbye” and “Mama”.
He is also getting physically stronger every day. Bright can now hold his head up while lying on his tummy. He is also able to reach for toys, hold them and release them as part of meaningful and intentional activity.
What Bright wants most, though, is to stand. Laure (one of our FIDESCO French volunteers) decided to try him in our “Bantam Easy Stand” which was generously donated. He is able to see the world from a different angle and engage in many activities using the table. Being upright also puts him at the right level to communicate with others and he enjoys being able to meet people at a standing level.
We are so proud of Bright and all the progress he has made with your help and ours. The therapists continue efforts to improve his strength and his speech – so that when you are finally able to visit us again, Bright can confidently say “Thank you!” in person.
