STIMULATION PROGRAMMES
Stimulation
Our day rooms are bright and colourful places, filled with mobiles and other toys aimed at stimulating children. Those who are able to do so, have fun building towers of blocks or pedalling a tricycle. For others, fun may come from seeing themselves in a mirror or watching a mobile turn above their heads.
Early Childhood Development (ECD) Education for Profound Intellectual Disability
At LITTLE EDEN, in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Education, we implement evidence-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) educational principles specifically adapted for residents with profound intellectual disabilities. Our therapeutic education programmes recognise that learning continues throughout life, focusing on enhancing quality of life through structured developmental activities.
Spiritual development & support:
The chapels Our Lady of the Angels at Edenvale and Holy Family at Bapsfontein cater for and support the spiritual enrichment of all residents and staff. The public is encouraged to participate in our weekly services. Morning prayer and grace are included daily.
Participation in creative activities & concerts:
The residents participate in creative activities and have produced artwork that is displayed in the Homes. Residents perform beautiful concerts where they interact with delight with the audience and share what they have achieved with the assistance of dedicated staff.
Family & love:
Residents are also exposed to relationship and social skills development. To the 300 residents, LITTLE EDEN is their family and source of love, critical to them reaching their full potential. They also learn how to socialise and interact with staff and one another.
Individual care & stimulation:
Paulos learned how to first lift his left and then his right hand. With months of dedication, Banele can now propel his wheelchair. Jacuzzi sessions help Shaun’s spastic muscles to relax and a combination of therapies keeps Ahmed’s severe asthma at bay.
