LITTLE EDEN scoops second place at Social Innovation and Disability Empowerment Awards

At last year’s SAB Foundation Social Innovation & Disability Empowerment Awards, LITTLE EDEN’s Showerßath, developed by Lucy Slaviero, scooped second place.

Suitable for use in care facilities, hospitals and homes, the Showerßath makes bath time safe and hygienic for heavier people including children and adults with limited mobility who are unable to bath themselves. At the same time, it provides caregivers with an easy to use device that reduces the physical strain of having to lift people in and out of traditional baths.

Along with the award, LITTLE EDEN received a grant of R900 000 to cover the cost of rolling out the prototype Showerßath. We are excited about the potential impact this invention will have on persons with disabilities and their carers throughout South Africa. Congratulations to the teams who jointly won the first prize: Moleseng Mohlolo from Mpumalanga created specialised seating for children with disabilities, and Dr Daemon McClunan from the Western Cape designed an Optishunt that could prevent blindness in glaucoma patients.
